Madiba is no longer with us, but we can still celebrate his birthday in a way that makes a positive difference in the communities where we live. Cape Town's cold and wet winters take a toll on all us, but the homeless people of Cape Town are particularly vulnerable during this time of the year, as they have little or any protection from the elements.
We've, therefore, decided to support a local organisation, named Street Sleeper, for this year's Mandela Day. They describe their main objectives as:
To provide immediate relief to South Africa’s homeless by manufacturing and distributing upcycled, durable survival sleeping bags;
To promote skills development amongst marginalised members of our society by providing employment; and
To lower social barriers and tackle the stigma around homelessness by facilitating dialogue and active engagement between the gifters and receivers of their bags.
There are various ways in which you can support them, so go check out their website by clicking on the link. We've decided to donate some funds to assist with the production of a few of their upcycled sleeping bags and we encourage all our clients and friends to do the same.
So get out there and do something good!
